I finally made it out to 57 last night with Manny after a pit stop and a few drinks at DTOX. A few drinks by the way equate to 4.5. We all know well that my tolerance is nil and my threshold for sobriety is at 3. However, I was determined to let loose and celebrate the new J.O.B. I'd be starting on Monday.

By 5am it was waaaaaay past my bed time, 1.5 drinks past my limit, and I may have lost equilibrium for just a hundredth of a second but long enough to not go unnoticed by Manny who responded with an appropriate, "WEPA"!

By five-something I was fast as sleep, having no idea how much I would hate myself for that extra 1.5 upon waking.

Good times...

Book of Eli

I finally made it out to see the Book of Eli, staring Denzel Washington.

I loved this movie! It was well worth fairing the weather for.

It had an amazing storyline and the ending's twist was completely unexpected, adding an extra wow factor to an already great flick.

It definitely deserves a 5-star rating in my book.

The Wait is Over

I waited most of the day at my friend Hiro's house, because my door buzzer is kaput and I didn't want to risk missing the delivery man who had no way of knowing how much joy his shipment was going to bring me.

After an anxiously long wait and several tracking calls to UPS later, they finally arrived with the goods at 6:30pm.

{Insert: long sigh of relief sound effect here}

At last, the new toys are here, 22" inches of beautiful widescreen HD clarity to surf the web, netstream movies, game and chitchat over unimportant mundane things on social networking sites.

The DTOX Summary

Despite the night starting off far less favorable than it could have...

I made the best of it and made it a point to have fun.

Summary:

  • 2 Drinks

  • 2 Hours

  • 2 bad judgement calls

  • 2 many bad pick-up lines

  • 2 bad for them

Legion

I saw Legion today.

It was cool, in an alright-wish it was more of an epic-sort of way.

The storyline was interesting but only if you allowed your suspension-of-disbelief creep in long enough to buy into the whole God turning His back on man bit.

I don't recommend this movie to the Christian-Right, but then again if you're on my page you probably found enlightenment some time ago and fall not in that archaic category.

Atheists will have no problem enjoying the movie but should refrain from using the term Holy-shit throughout the experience for the sake of not sounding oxymoronic.

The cinematography was nice yet they saved a bundle because the entire thing was mostly shot on one location; a God forbidden watering hole of a diner in the middle of a desert, appropriately named Paradise Falls.

The special effects were very cool but sparse.

I left wanting more and committed to only watch the DVD should there ever be a part two.

I am hence only giving it a 3 star rating.

Stranger than Fiction

new horizons.jpg

One day, while lost and on that path which leads to no where, I stumbled onto the shadiest of Palms. It was, I thought, a spot of green on the driest of vast horizons or maybe just a mirage conjured by a then desperate vagabond imagination.

Tired and beaten by the broken path I tread, I decided to lay against it for comfort, closed my eyes, and thought perhaps I would find protection beneath its fronds for a while.

But, the palm was self consumed, it bore no fruit, took most of my water, only sparingly shared what little shade it choose to offer and ultimately brought much more pain than that of solace.

One day, after much too long a span of time and much too many drops, I turned away, saw my soul was parched and decided to stop watering the palm in which I emplaced so many hopes upon.

Alas, it was then that I awoke to find my self, yet again, alone, on that same familiar path, with much more focus, water meant for my soul and no one elses, one less palm of worries, and baring witness to a new horizon.

1 Do not fret because of evil men
or be envious of those who do wrong;

2 for like the grass they will soon wither,
like green plants they will soon die away.

3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:

6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.

8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret--it leads only to evil.

9 For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.

11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy great peace.
