Pollepel Island

Happy Halloween Everyone,

In light of the holiday spirit, I offer this shot of Pollepel Island which was believed to be haunted by early Native Americans, who only dared venture to it by day.

The arsenal better known as Bannerman's Castle who's construction begun in 1901 and ended in 1918, was greatly damaged after a 200lbs explosion of artillery and gun powder in 1920. Today, it is one of very few structures to meet "castle" standards in the U.S.

Some think spooky and haunted, I say historically interesting and worth a visit.

Northern Watersnake

Meet, Nerodia sipedon, commonly known as a Northern Watersnake, but often mistaken for its venomous cousin the Cottonmouth.

I have been bumping into quite a few of these as of late near the higher altitude bodies of water which I frequent. They never fail to send a knee weakening chill up my leg that usually results in that surprised clumsy awkward startle that you would rather your macho counterparts to never witness.
