Distance Between Us

Do you ever wonder why we, humans, go to such great lengths to purposefully distance ourselves from others? Why must we always maintain that ethereal thing between us we call personal space.

Do you ever wonder why so many SUV’s thread the asphalt jungles, consuming so much space for a single occupant or why the idea of a relationship more often than not, seem synonymous with the likes of a ticking bomb?

Ever wonder why some cigarette smokers build hazy walls between themselves and others yet self identify as “social-smokers”? Why does internet chat nowadays seems easier than a sit down at a local café.

Do you ever wonder why the person behind the counter is usually solely experienced as an entity of labor and denied the small talk or ritualistic antics of familiarity? Why is it that we might never learn the name of our mailman or corner grocer or even thereafter never make use of it?

Why is the first table we opt for at the local fast food spot at a safe three unoccupied table distance from the rest?

Why live life, equipped with so many shields, masks, and barriers between us, to only then run home and experience one another through the sterile makings of the television tube?

Why?

It's been a while since I read your blog, bro. When I read this piece, it made me wonder & think about somethings as well.
