Paradox: Freedom

The neo-American militant “war on terror”, fueled by economical interests comes at the expense of human life and the butchery of civil liberties for both the invaded foreign as well as the apple-pie domestic. Most Americans still do not seem to have a clue. They sit back and justify the “anti-terror” movements unaware, or perhaps uncaring, of the burden that such measures is having on their rights. We cover our eyes with gossamer veils and allow the wrong doing be deemed as venerable. Even when it blatantly contradicts the very premises of freedom, Christianity, and the personal protections by which our society is founded.

Who cares about the citizens of the Middle East or the military oversights of the Geneva Convention? Why worry about their freedom, when we hardly care about ours which is seemingly up for grabs with little if any adversity by fellow citizens?

Civil liberties should not be toyed with. They are to remain set in the proverbial stone, never be open to question, editions, or momentarily placed on hold, no matter what the stakes are.

The cost of freedom and security, should never come at the price of Orwellian like antics. We should not allow ourselves to be bamboozled by political rhetoric that only benefits the Bush, Enron, and Halliburton junta. To do so is as anti-American as not protesting to our invasion of privacy, allowing for a mixture of private-interest politics with federal decision making, or standing idly as mass murder of innocent people is committed abroad.

Is it all too late to change, or is this as American as it gets?

This is as American as it gets. You're right: many people still don't have a clue; it was designed that way. I wonder if half of us would even care.
For those of us who do, I came across this passage yesterday in a book i've been reading lately: "The wise see knowledge and action as one; they see truly". . . The Bhagavad-Gita. Just thought i'd put that out there.
Yusef, where did u take this pic?

I took it on the train. It is a sticker posted to a New York City Police recruitment advertisment (212-Recruit)

I completely agree with you Yusef, so I put my money where my mouth is and joined the ACLU http://www.aclu.org, they are actually doing things about/ it. But we have to actually let our voices be heard to our legislative reps and VOTE and also we gotta keep doing things like this, blogging it and keeping it fresh in everyone's mind.
