I have received several why-have-you-not-posted email inquiries. I hardly feel obliged to offer an explanation, unnecessary as it may be, but the fact is that I happen to have a good one. I started a new job which is taking up a lot of my time. I went from a four day summer schedule to a six day work week. You might imagine what it is like to no longer have Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off. So much for the seasonal quasi-socialite flings with New York’s nightlife. So long, brunches at 3pm, double espressos at 1am and welcome le travail nouveau.
The owner of the restaurant where I previously worked asked that I start managing at one of his other restaurants. I had passed down previous offers due to my lack of love for the then (being the operative word) General Manager. I hated that cunt. Anyway, long story short. I was really starting to consider leaving but was then offered a managerial position in an eleven year established business. The restaurant is a quaint rustic Tuscan inspired space. The menu is GINORMOUS, the portions are generous and good to the taste buds.
I like much of the existing staff and the rest I tolerate fairly well. I haven’t yet pissed anyone off but it just a matter of time with these things. I try my best to always say please, thank you, and help them out whenever I feel that they need the help. Hopefully, I won’t ever make anyone feel the way so many managers have made me feel.
The best parts of the job are that I get to “dress up” every workday and put to use the results of Banana Republic wholesale shopping sprees, I get to eat super yummy meals, the pay raise, and most importantly feeling good about my new position.
The least favorable aspects of the job are the new hours, newly acquired load of responsibilities, waking up at 7am, ironing clothes in the morning, and the stress of wanting to do a good job, especially since I am still green and under assumed scrutiny.
Then there is the gym, insomnia, DVD’s, procrastination, Italian lessons, wine books, narrative proses of considerable leagnth, latenight infomercials, and internet. How is a boy to get any rest? School starts on the 27th and will serve as the cherry atop, the straw that broke, etc. etc.
I am not complaining. I am simply anticipating the challenge. I’ll complain later.

Felicidades on your new job. (normally the following would be said with a glass of your best wine) here's to your continued success and maintaining your balance. ¡salud!
Thank you Ross. When are you paying John and I another visit?
Je te souhaite la meilleur avec ta nouvelle poste, Yusef. J'aime bien la cuisine italienne. Peut-être je vais decider de passer pour essayer les plats... Je t'embrasse!!
Well you know, I see John every other weekend...but I'll be back possibly labor day weekend.
Good to hear this new gig is working out!! And just think, you wanted to call them up and quit that day.
Work will always preside over going out n' socializing. Though last night did feel like a link was missing, when Christina and I decided to paint the town red. Fist stop 1. Danny over at Pacha -- PACKED -- but that didnt bother us as we were upstairs in the VIP loung having one too many "fix your own drinks" then 2. Victor over at Crobar --hmm-- as quoted by a straight girl, it was "too straight" but Victor, beat-wise never fails!! Definitely on point. We sat upstairs in the booth mostly, descending from our previous alcohal consumption for about an hour, made a few rounds around the dancefloor and called it a night!
Tonight, Cielo: The Fresh Fruit Anniversary party.
Christina and I decided one day that we will be swinging by your place for lunch/dinner...make sure your wearing your best Prada!! Congrats again on the position!!!
Where's the new spot. I'd like to come by and check it out. I tried emailing you at yusef@cubanism.com and it came back.... it might be my email issue though.
Funny was also at the Fresh Fruit party. Quentin is mah boy. You need to hear him spin sometime. =)
No wonder you haven't been around lately. Good luck with everything, I am sure you'll make it through as usual. You're Tonka Tough. =P
