Feliz dia de San Valentin. Hope all is well. I have been cannonaded with innumerable presentations, research papers and projects strewn about in such a disarray they too have began to climb the walls of my crypt-like chamber, that is always off by ten degrees and smells as if thousands upon thousands of books have been watered down and allowed to lay so far that the writings no longer appear on the pages. Yeah, I know where the F*CK did that come from. I think it might be mild dementia. Anyway, just thought I'd shoot you a few lines, something to consider, I'm sure you've come across such thoughts.......
The creative process involves learning not to see with your eyes, but with your heart and soul. Creativity is a commencing product of the imagination. The imagination is the pivotal force in driving the creative process. The creative process centers on the mechanisms and facets involved as one partakes in a creative act. A second mien of creativity is the creative unit. Here, personality traits of creative people are central which includes five steps, but is not limiting, leaving room for our own style to shine through.
Creativity involves the translation of our unique gifts, talents and vision into an external reality that is new, useful and uniquely ours. Isn’t it so that spontaneous creation comes from our deepest being and is immaculately and originally ourselves, ultimately, the only techniques that can help us are those we invent ourselves? We should not feel constrained to stay between the lines; we should feel free to express ourselves in any way we see fit. Originality is derived from being true to ourselves, not anything else.
The creative process steps should be used as a guideline to aid the creative individual along the way. Luckily, the trail is at least marked with pointers to guide the chase, like clues in a treasure hunt; these notations spur the quest. The stages of the creative process follow a successive order beginning with the first insight and followed by saturation, incubation, illumination and verification. There is not much more to say about the creative process because there are different personality types, and the creative processes of one are not the same as those of another each of us must find his or her own way into and through these essential mysteries. The process is like a darkened path with only a few street lamps to guide the way. It is up to each creative person to find his own end so that his creation is truly his own.
You should not dwell on the result or outcome of your work because the journey is its own reward. The journey is often hard and requires persistence and much work, but don’t give up, just take one step at a time. You don’t have to see where you’re going, you don’t have to see your destination, and you just have to see two or three feet ahead of you. Let your work take you where it will, don’t force it in one direction. Let the outcome happen naturally because the unexpected awaits us at every turn, the future is vast and the more we live and know, the greater the mystery. You may end up somewhere that you would have never thought possible, but it is the right place to be.
Do not be afraid to bear your soul through your writing, surrender your self and you will be free. Have passion toward your work because a big heart is both a clunky and delicate thing; it doesn’t protect itself and doesn’t hide, it stands out where you can see the soul pulse through. Allowing your deepest beliefs to drive your writing will not only keep your work from being contrived but will help you discover what drives your characters. By surrendering yourself to your work, you allow your reader a certain intimacy towards you and they may relate to your work. Also, don’t be afraid to venture into the unknown, be willing to try something new. The unfamiliar can lead to delight and occasionally a great creative breakthrough. You may discover something that you are truly passionate about.
Many people incorrectly assume that creative thinking is a special gift, bestowed on only a few. Even though we rarely see the extraordinary creativity of an Edison or Einstein, the ability to generate innovative ideas is a common trait that we all possess. Creative people are seen as those who seem to maintain a healthy respect for the powers in themselves of the irrational and unconscious. You just have to tap into your inner voice or self and let your thoughts flow out without censoring them. I believe that creative individuals are remarkable for their ability to adapt to almost any situation and to make do with whatever is at hand to reach their goals. Trust your intuition and you will not be lead astray.
The point is that creative thinking requires that we think in a new direction, away from or beyond our current mental patterns toward something new. A creative idea is an original, novel thought. Learn to follow your own course, not patterned on parents, peers, or institutions. Being totally faithful to your own individuality will allow your personality and style to come through, leaving your own unique mark on your work.
