The US Mission in Havana and Fidel's ongoing measuring contest is hilarious.
First, During Christmas of '04 Cuba became enraged over the Mission's Christmas lights. The Mission, who really knows how to push the army clad buttons, put up some festive decorations The lights sported a huge twinkly number 75, a reference to the 75 jailed dissidents (March '03) who were charged as working with the US of A to "overthrow the communist government."
In retaliation, Cuba erected billboards across the street from the mission showing U.S. soldiers abusing Iraqi prisoners and a huge swastika overlaid with a "Made in the U.S.A" stamp.
Now, they have pulled rulers out again. Uncle Sam gained a few inches during Martin Luther King Day, when the Mission ran excerpts from the "I have a dream" speech and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in pretty rolling red text on it's billboards that look out unto the busy Malecon. I followed the previous stories on havanajournal.com and caught the latest tit-for-tat yesterday on Commondreams.com.

You know Yusef, thank goodness Fidel only has a few more good years left. Then he will finally be a thing of the past. One last thought; when I hear his name I cannot help but reflect back when he feel off the stage on to his face. Did you see that speech? I always wonder if that was a metaphor for his politics?hmmmmmm
In reference to Miguel's comment above; correct me if I'm wrong but, when Fidel Castro does step down, isn't one of his sons going to take over? -which will continue their fathers legacy of dictatorship?
Dear favorite slice,
Yes you are right. His "brother" Raul C. will take his place.
That car is a Fiat 126p. There is so many of those on Poland. You can buy one for literally a 100$. When I go back there for vacation I think I'm going to get one to just ride around in and have some car abuse fun.
Piotr,
$100! Damn have you ever heard of the joke regarding the fiat acronym?

Anyway, it was nice having you and Kiyomi over for dinner the other night. She was very nice. I look forward to a snowboarding trip at Creek Mountain with you guys next month. I will try to plan it pre or post my Miami trip. How long are the passes valid for?
Our passes are valid till the end of the season, late March early April. But they can be only used by the person who it is registered under, so sorry no discount tickets, but definitely we should hook uo and go there together. I probably won't go this weekend because I busted my ass on a rail last time and my back is still swollen. When are you going to Miami?
Ohh, and we got a similiar saying in Poland but I can't remeber it word for word at the moment.
Piotr,
Dumb ass. Were you trying to rail slide? Miami, In two weeks or so.
