I had an excellent day yesterday. Work was as crazy as ever. There was a non stop influx of patrons looking for their appetitive fix. I am not sure how many miles I covered on the restaurant floor but I am sure it was the equivalent of a very long distance. Jon Stewart, of The Daily Show, came in with his family. It was a lot of fun serving his table. I was worried that his real life demeanor might conflict with my T.V perception of his personality. He was super down to earth, incredibly talkative and made the entire experience of serving one of my television idols quite comforting. His son Nate is an adorable baby. He was quite fond of raisins and our children’s pizza. He went ecstatic when he saw a box of blueberries in the kitchen and I ended up giving him his own personal bowl of berries in exchange for some of his candy canes. At some point I argued with Mr. Stewart, who was on his knees under the table, over the fact that it was not ok for him to clean up after Nate. “That’s my job”, I kept trying to explain to no avail. He insisted and I had no choice but to pick up blueberries and raisins along with the king of political incorrectness beneath the table, all while thinking that this situation couldn’t possibly be real. He tipped me a very generous 40.5% rate and left me with a great story to share. I look forward to serving them again.
I sold close to $3,000 dollars worth of food, made about $300 dollars in tips and may take home share was a hefty $160. I was so happy that I sat around long enough to enjoy two glasses of pinto nero after the shift was over.
After my two glasses of vino, I met up with some Japanese friends for Dinner. They are flying back home today. The last time they were here, was on my birthday and were extremely generous and hospitable. One gentleman is a well to do fashion mogul, the other a world known make up artist, who charges beaucoup ¥en for his services and never leaves home without a very large colorful woman’s purse. The girls were a lot of fun. One was a successful and oh-so-beautiful dancer who gets down to a Reggeaton beat better then most Puerto Rican hoochies. We went to Sevilla restaurant and consumed close to four hundred dollars worth of food and drink. After two pitchers of Sangria, lobsters, clams, mussels, Paella, sirloin steak, Spanish style chorizo, desserts and espressos, we headed out to a bar for another round of earthly pleasures. The temperature with wind chill factor was at 11 minus zero and simply too cold to walk around looking for a suitable watering hole. Of all the places in the world, I took my Nihonjin (Japanese) group, to the Monster. If you live in NYC and are familiar with the local dives you would know what an appropriate name that bar bears. Despite the Monstrous local, we had a great time dancing and downing welfare-priced frozen margaritas.
