Year of the Rooster

Hopefully everyone had the chance to go out and enjoy either Flushing’s (Queen’s, New York) or Manhattan’s Chinese New Years Day celebration parades. If you didn’t, you missed out on dragons warding off evil spirits, firecrackers, ornate hair styles, great food, and one of New York City’s oldest ethnic legacies. God willing their colorful, welcoming, and luck laced week was a precursor for what the rooster has in store.

Below are the pictures of the oddest part of the Queens parade. It was a moving audio atrocity that broke all of New York City’s noise ordinances. There were two gazillion waltz speakers attached to the Taiwanese Senior Citizen Center shuttle playing not a mandolin rhythm but ear shattering death metal of all things. Children cried, hands went over ears, and our looks to one another were universally understood. Also odd was the gay rooster that was plastered to the side of the decibel monster that sported gold plumage, and was capable of some gender bending egg laying skills. My guess is the art director for this particular float was a hard of hearing, cock lover of sorts, that’s been watching to much fashion T.V.
